Final Doom is a first-person shooter released by id Software on July, 17 1996 that basically consists in two IWAD, the TNT: Evilution, created by TeamTNT, and The Plutonia Experiment, from the Casali Brothers.
Both TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment feature the same weapons, items, monsters and map structures (30 regular maps and 2 secret levels) from Doom II: Hell on Earth. These feature a couple of new graphics (like the intermission screen), textures and some classic Doom's resources. However, while TNT: Evilution presents a totally new BGM (and a very good one), The Plutonia Experiment uses music from Doom and Doom 2.
Originally released for PC, as one might expect, Final Doom was also ported to other platforms, such as Macintosh (December, 4 1996), PlayStation (October 1st, 1996) and PlayStation 3 (November, 20 2012). The PlayStation version featured a selection of the original Final Doom and Master Levels for Doom II combined in one game. In August of 2015, Bethesda released the game, along with Doom 2, on GOG.
Video
The following video was recorded with Final Doom for our Gaming DooM series of videos. The first part shows TNT: Evilution running solo on GZDoom while the second shows The Plutonia Experiment loaded with MetaDoom v3.64, to show that it can be used as an IWAD to load Doom mods. The vídeo is in Portuguese but we plan to subtitle it to English as soon as we can.
Gameplay
Even though Final Doom is a standalone game, meaning that it doesn't need Doom nor Doom II to run, its gameplay is absolutely the same of these other two FPS. Here, too, a lone and ballsy space marine faces hordes of zombies and demons through 32 maps (on each IWAD) collecting all the weapons, ammo, power-ups, medikits and armor that are going to help him on his task. The main gameplay-wise difference consists, besides the new maps, in the fact that Final Doom is substantially harder than the original Dooms, at least on its PC version. The Final Doom PlayStation port is also practicality identical to the console's Doom, but is quite easier than the PC one. This port had some of the most tricky maps removed or made easier. Some resources, like screens, BGMs and textures are also different, even though it don't interfere with the gameplay.
Note: This post is like a placeholder. It is still pretty simplified but I plan to enrich it eventually. Any contributions will be appreciated.
