Zandronum is an advanced Doom port focused on promoting an enhanced multiplayer experience, offering new game modes like Capture the Flag, Invasion or Domination. This port is compatible with all games that were built over the Doom's id Tech engine, running not only with this 1993's FPS, but also with Doom II, Final Doom, Freedoom, Heretic, Hexen, Strife, Chex Quest etc.
An open-source source port forked off from the latest development of another advanced engine, Skulltag, Zandronum was created by the former Skulltag development team, who decided to build their own port due to conflicts with Skulltag's creator, Brad "Carnevil" Carney. Like Skulltag, Zandronum is also based on ZDoom and on the GZDoom's renderer. It's first public version, Zandronum v1.0, was released on August 24, 2012.
According to the port's official site, Zandronum aims to "bring the classic Doom into the 21st century, maintaining the essence of what made this game great for so many years and, at the same time, adding new features to modernize it, creating a fresh, fun new experience." Despite the fact that they usually take a bit too long to update the engine, I'd say it's being successful in its objective.

The above video shows an offline free-for-all deathmatch (with bots) played with Death Foretold v1.0.1 running on Zandronum 3.0.
This one is a tutorial that teaches an organized, yet very easy, way to set and play games with Zandronum. It's on Portuguese, but we're working on English subtitles and these will be added eventually.
Attention: This post still lacks a lot of info. I'm going to update it as soon as possible.
