Factotum

Factotum is a Doom mod developed by GAA1992 that adds to this first person shooter an arsenal which its weapons work under a durability system: the more they are used, the more they are going to lose efficiency. These can be repaired with parts that can be collected or just break and stop working completely.
The PWAD also brings new screens, HUD, sound effects and items, also bringing an inventory where medikits, the parts to repair the weapons and other pick-ups can be stacked. Another interesting Factotum’s feature relates to combat, where the alternative fire of all the arsenal’s items can be toggled between a machete attack and a grenade throw: if the player is using the machete as primary weapon, the altfire becomes the grenade, or vice versa.

The original premise of the mod is quite simple: it combines ideas that GAA1992 intended to use in other WADs, but never worked out, for one reason or another. However, I would say that it was successful in after all, since, even with a small arsenal, these concepts ended up being combined in a satisfactorily and balanced way and, since they are not commonly seen around, quite original.

I was surprised by this PWAD, even though it is a bit Frankenstein. It's worth to take a look at.

Videos

The above video is our traditional-style showcase made for Factotum. I tried to show the main WAD's features and make a small review. It was played with Doom II and Final Doom.

The video above, by its turn, shows the PWAD being played on Heretic's E1M2. Since we don't have many mods that support this FPS in our channel, I decided to record Factotum with the IWAD from this game as well.

Compatibility

I ran Factotum here on GZDoom 2.4 and 3.2.5, with the IWADs from Doom II: Hell on Earth, The Ultimate Doom, Final Doom, Heretic, Hexen and both Freedoom’s phases.
