Illuminatus

Illuminatus is a Doom II mod developed by Cory "Aquarius199/NiTROACTiVE" Scott for single player or cooperative games that features 32 totally new maps.

The Illuminatus plot follows a few years after the Final Doom’s events. Everything seemed fine until an UAC plant located in the USA sunk into the ground and an infernal void emerged nearby, with the surrounding structures being overrun by demonic forces.
The megawad doesn’t feature any gameplay changes, being this totally vanilla. It also implies that Illuminatus should be compatible with the countless gameplay or monster mods around. However, the PWAD does have some new screens, soundtracks and textures, or modifications on these.

The above video shows the first Illuminatus level and talks a bit about the WAD. I found it a pretty solid first map, large but with intuitive progression. Looks like the other levels follow the same style.

Plot

Sometime after Final Doom's events, things seemed to have settled down when it came to the invasions of the demons from Hell. For a few years, not a single demon intruder had come to Earth ever since. However, out of the blue, a plant in a UAC-owned property in the USA sank into the ground, which meant something was wrong. Then a hellish void came out of the ground near a mining facility not too far from the plant that sunk into the ground. Some troops were killed, but most of them became zombified. Many of the zombie troops went to Hell to work for the demons of that god-damned place. No one knows how this is all happening, but one thing’s for sure, someone’s got to do something about all of this. Your job is to take out the demon forces in all of the buildings near the void, but you’ll have to get past the demons of the UAC district about 500 miles from where you’re at to get to the airport to hitch a ride to the newly made void to Hell. It’s going to be one tough mission, so good luck, Marine!

Compatibility

I ran Illuminatus here on GZDoom (1.8.2, 2.4 and 3.2), Zandronum (2.0 and 3.0) and ZDoom 2.8.1, with the IWADs from Doom II: Hell on Earth, Final Doom and Freedoom’s phase 2. It ran just fine with all that.

According to what I saw, the megawad also should work in older ports or Chocolate Doom. Aquarius199 said it should run even on DOSBox, but there are some bugs in it, which he plans to fix in the eventual mod's updates.
