Doom Vercetti

Doom Vercetti is a Doom mod created by DoomGuy II where the player controls a female super soldier that would be an adult Powerpuff Girls Blossom's version.

This partial conversion brings, besides the protagonist, new and modified monsters, new arsenal, random enemies and weapons spawning, new sounds, voice acting, some graphic changes, new HUD, a more efficient meele than the Vanilla’s one, and a good amount of blood and gore. Also, the mod has an inventory that stacks the medikits, which is very handy, but I didn't see any other items like that in this PWAD. Some power-ups, though, have been altered in visual and effect. The Blur Sphere, for example, is a "reflex booster" which, in fact, makes monsters move very slowly over a certain period of time.

The monsters have been modified in their behavior, sound effects and drops, but this is nothing that makes the mod very difficult. In fact, I found Doom Vercetti quite balanced in this aspect. The reload isn't automatic though and it's better set the keys before start playing to avoid eventual fuckups.

I liked Doom Vercetti a lot. It's fast-paced and original, mixing all of this fun gameplay with cartoonish elements and the good old Rip and Tear. The only thing that I'd put there is automatic reloading: having to press a key to feed ammo to your guns kinda breaks it's pace a bit.

Weapons

There are more detailed info about the Doom Vercetti's arsenal (and in general) in the DV-INFO.txt file that comes with the mod, but you will notice that some of its items are two weapons combined, where one is fired by the primary shot and the other by altfire. In fact, many of them have secondary fire mode and two need mana, which can drop from the monsters.
  • Fists - Doom Vercetti (Blossom) is fully trained to beat the living shit out of the bad guys since she was very young. She is very brutal and not afraid to throw a fist at 'em. Press fire simultaneously for a punch combo and the altfire button for a kick combo;
  • Chainsaw - Doom Vercetti will get very greedy when it comes to handling chainsaws. Great for cutting trees down and ripping flesh up;
  • MK-24 Mini-Pistol - Doom Vercetti's standard issue firearm, the MK-24 is a highly modified version of the MK-23 Handgun. It uses 9mm bullets that do good damage and has the ability to use energy based clips thus turning the MK-24 into an Energy Pistol. Also comes in akimbo;
  • Desert Eagle - One of the most powerful handguns we see today. Powerful enough to make a big hole in the foe's torso. Also comes in akimbo;
  • Mossberg 500 Pump Shotgun - One of the shotguns we see today, this one delivers a punch at close range and generous pelting at a distance... Unless if you decide to aim the gun in the iron sights and fire off high accuracy rifled slugs that still packs a good punch, even at long range;
  • Double Barreled Shotgun - The name says it all. A break action side by side shotgun that does wider spread of pellets delivering devastating damage, even though it takes a bit longer to reload;
  • PSG-1 Sniper Rifle - It is one of the sniper rifles we see today and possibly the most expensive on the market. Uses 7.92mm sniper bullets that can take out an enemy from a greater distance. Be sure that you get a good vantage point, too;
  • H&K MP5 Sub-Machine Gun - The MP5, made by Heckler and Kloch, is one of the most popular sub-machine real life guns we have today. Compared with some other SMGs, the MP5 packs a good punch for this specific type of weapon;
  • M4A1 Carbine Assault Rifle - This is a lighter version of the M-16 rifle and one of the real life weapons of the mod. This rifle is fully automatic and replaces the M3A1 Grease Gun that was still in service in the US. It also comes with an M-203 underbarrel grenade launcher, shooting 40mm grenades doing really great damage. You can also have the ability to fire two at a time, thus doubling the damage;
  • Pipebombs - Yep, it says it all. Throw the bomb, hit the detonator, and watch 'em fly. Be careful where you place them, as they have a high radius damage, otherwise you'll receive splash damage;
  • Mach 5 Missile Launcher - The Mach 5 is a single barrel multi-shot missile launcher developed by Townsville Aerospace. Holds 5 rounds of missiles and even utilizes heat-seeking technology using energy cells;
  • AA-12 Explosive Shotgun - The AA-12 is one of the most deadliest shotguns ever made. High firing rate and low recoil. Even though it uses standard 12 gauge shotgun shells, it is also designed to use the Frag-12 explosive shotgun shell, making this weapon into a minature grenade launcher;
  • BFG V-6 - The experimental weapon developed by Townsville Aerospace is basically the most powerful weapon in the game. It fires red balls of plasma dealing massive amount of damage and also has an alternate mode in which it fires a bigger red ball of plasma causing a massive column to form, disintegrating every demon within its radius and also delivers a big zap upon impact;
  • The Soul-Lace - An artifical weapon experimented by Townsville Aerospace. Strangely, the origin of this weapon is unknown. It was actually collected from a deserted city called Marsville which is 40 miles away from Townsville. Scientists tried their best with their experiment before Hell broke loose and that three of the minions took the artifact with them in the depths of Hell. However, Doom Vercetti managed to destroy the minions, recover the Soul-Lace, and have it in her possession. This artifact is basically the only weapon that is most effective against the purest of all evil. This artifact can be sent into flight while homing in on enemy to enemy ripping their bodies apart whilst absorbing their souls and can also be used to protect its user. Do keep in mind that when the Soul-Lace is in flight, it cannot be used again until it returns to your possession;
  • The Terror Cube - An artifical weapon experimented by Townsville Aerospace. The origin of this weapon is unknown. It was collected from a corrupted city that was once sane called Deibosville that is 40 miles away from Marsville. Scientists tried hard into experimenting on that weapon until Hell broke loose and the artifact disappeared. No one, not even a single Hellspawn, ever knew what happened to the artifact, until Doom Vercetti managed to recover it. This artifact, as understood by scientists, can only be held by the one who can withstand its dreadful curse contained within the artifact, which can cause uncontrollable fear, hallunications, and possibly leading to some serious signs of phobia that could last depending on how the victim is treated overtime. This artifact is close as powerful as the Soul-Lace itself and can unleash hordes of possessed souls while they harvest on their victims causing tremendous amount of damage. Do keep in mind when the Terror Cube is in flight, it cannot be used again until it returns to your possession.
The two hoodoo weapons, Soul-Lace and Terror Cube, are the ones that need mana. The Soul-Lace needs blue mana and The Terror Cube needs black. Both are very powerful. The Terror Cube's effect even looks like something that came out of The Russian Overkill.

Compatibility

The mod seems to work fine on GZDoom (1.8.2 and 3.2) and on Zandronum (2.0 and 3.0), with the IWADs from Doom II: Hell on Earth, The Ultimate Doom, Final Doom and from both Freedoom’s phases. It also has a Hexen version that comes in a separate file.
