Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom

Friday the 13th: Jason’s Doom is a Doom II mod created by Kontra Kommando that places the iconic undead serial killer Jason Voorhees to face no one else than the Doomguy in a cabin from the Camp Crystal Lake.

The problem, however, is that the space marine won’t have access to most of his usual and powerful arsenal, counting only in some weapons that were added in order to raise the map’s difficulty. Added to the new weaponry, the PWAD uses and adapts resources from the 8-Bit NES cartridge Friday the 13th, like textures, background music, screens and some sprites. Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom also uses the Sergeant_Mark_IV’s Universal Gore Mod T4, which looks like an earlier Ketchup Gore Mod V5 version, to enable a blood splatting system on the mod. It adds a lot to the map's atmosphere.

It is very interesting, IMHO, how Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom combines an old 8-bit game with updated features from the advanced Doom ports. It also managed to provide a good amount of challenge in a colorful and nostalgic, yet creepy, setting. This means, for me, a lot of fun. In fact, Jason's Doom is one of my favorite Doom mods ever.

Videos

First, we have our showcase of the Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom. I tried to make a decent review on this one. Also it's on Nightmare.
The above video shows Friday the 13th: Jason's Doom and Brutal Doom v19 (in the Black Metal difficulty) being played together. There is also some other WADs combinations, like using Jason's Doom with the Brother in Arms mod.

Plot

You must defeat Jason Voorhees in LJN's 1989 setting of Friday The 13th for NES. Jason lurks around every corner seeking to bury his machete into your flesh. He will vanish into thin air, and appear right behind you, to end your life. You must survive Friday the 13th..

Weapons

The Friday The 13th: Jason’s Doom arsenal is one of the things that make the mod challenging as it is. Most of the weapons aren't powerhouse and ammo is scarce, but still vital. This means that you will have to use them wisely.
  • Pistol - The standard Doom vanilla pistol is present. It kinda sucks, but still can shoot Jason from medium distances.
  • Machete - You can use one of the Friday the 13th's trademark weapons, but it is kinda suicidal trying to take Jason in a melee combat, specially on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare.
  • Pipe Bomb - Brought from Duke Nukem 3D, this bomb is activated remotely and is one of the two weapons that are really effective against the undead monster.
  • Nail Gun - Inspired on Quake III Arena, the nail gun have a good fire rate and accuracy, but deals very small damage on Jason.
  • Flare Gun - You can use the flare gun to attack Voorhees as a last resort. It takes a bit to reload and seems ineffective, but its better than the machete and maybe the pistol.
  • Crossbow - The crossbow can also be handy if there's nothing else to use, but I don't like it very much.
  • Shotgun - Doom's shotgun is present. It's the best weapon IMO, but its being kept outside the cabin, so you gotta be able to kill Jason at least one time before using it.

Friday the 13th: Jason's Doom Lite

Friday The 13th: Jason's Doom Lite is an edition I made of Friday The 13th: Jason's Doom in order to allow it to be played with weapon packs and/or gameplay mods.

Note that this PWAD was released in a hurry and is still on a development stage. Bugs may happen, despite it has been tested with a lot of other mods.

Down below, we have an example of combo with Jason's Doom Lite. In this case, I loaded the mod along with Spawn: Path to Damnation, so I could use Todd McFarlane's undead antihero against that other nasty undead:

Compatibility

I ran Friday the 13th: Jason’s Doom here, without any problems, on GZDoom (1.8.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 3.2) and Zandronum 3.0, with the IWADs from Doom II: Hell on Earth, Final Doom and from Freedoom’s phase 2.

I could play it with ZDoom 2.8.1. It won't crash, but the floors and ceilings look kinda fucked up with it.
